SHARNBROOK'S Story

Knowing Jesus More
Making Jesus Known

Our church is made up of Christians of all ages who live in Sharnbrook and the surrounding villages.

We come from different walks of life and many different backgrounds, and are united by our love for Jesus. Our main aim as a church is to “Know Jesus more" and to "Make Jesus Known”. This means that through our life together as a church we seek to know Jesus more and become more like Him. We also want to share in word and deed the love we know through Jesus with people who don’t yet know Him.

We aim to be open to being changed by God’s Word – the Bible – through the work of the Holy Spirit. We consider ourselves to be a Bible-based church and at the centre of our life together is the preaching of God's Word and our collective study of the Bible.

Our church was founded in 1992 when what is now Hope Church Goldington, with the support of what is now Grace Community Church Kempston, planted our church in the village of Sharnbrook to provide a distinctive, independent, informal, Bible centric, evangelical presence and witness in north Bedfordshire. We still enjoy close links with these churches.

What We Believe

We are members of the Evangelical Alliance and we adhere to their statement of Faith which is listed below:

  • ABOUT GOD

    • The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
    • The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world.
  • ABOUT THE BIBLE

    • The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct.

  • ABOUT HUMANITY

    • The dignity of all people, made male and female in God’s image to love, be holy and care for creation, yet corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement.
  • ABOUT JESUS

    • The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; truly divine and truly human, yet without sin.
  • ABOUT SALVATION

    • The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God.
    • The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.
    • The justification of sinners solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ.
  • ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT & THE CHURCH

    • The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness.
    • The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love.
  • ABOUT JESUS RETURN

    • The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth.

WHO WE SUPPORT

Prayer for Christians in countries of South East Asia

THE MESSENGERS

The Messengers is a UK Christian registered charity. The Messengers’ stated aim is to provide support and encouragement to Christians in countries of South East Asia, where they are restricted or persecuted in practising their faith with particular emphasis given to the needs of tribal or minority groups. The objective is to help build the indigenous church in the access restricted lands of South East Asia, through practical and spiritual support.

As much of the work is of a sensitive nature there isn’t a Messengers website. However, a regular prayer meeting is held in the Sharnbrook area to pray for the work of The Messengers and the Suffering Church in South East Asia. Contact us for more details.
